Frequently Asked Questions
-
Consultation involves someone using their expertise to share information, recommendations, and advice. It’s an opportunity to ask an experienced professional the questions on your mind in a safe space.
How is this different from a life coach or therapy?
Therapy is typically with a licensed provider and involves diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. They focus on the past too. A coach doesn’t focus on the past. They focus on the present. Sessions target behavior change to achieve a set goal. While there may be some similarities between what you and I do together, it is not therapy or coaching.
-
Consultation does not involve treating or diagnosing mental health conditions. While we’ll talk about your family system and your child’s challenges, consultation will not include a deep dive into past events (e.g., traumas), psychological processes (e.g., why you are struggling as a provider or parent), or behavioral patterns. If you’re a professional in the autism space, consultation will not look like clinical supervision.
Rather than therapy or coaching, the primary goal for our time together is helping you gain information so you can confidently take the next steps that are right for you.

I believe:
You are the expert about your child and family. If you are a provider, then I hold space for the clinical skills you already bring to the table.
You’ve reached out for support because you care, not because you’ve failed.
Every child has strengths and untapped potential, which should be highlighted in the consultation process.
Everyone deserves to be seen as a whole person rather than a diagnosis, “disorder”, or set of symptoms.
Everyone deserves someone in their corner who takes a compassionate, respectful, and trauma-informed approach.

Supporting autistic children and the people in their lives is what I’m most passionate about. I also know autism does not occur in a vacuum. In other words, it can be nearly impossible to talk about a child’s needs without also talking about other things (e.g., medical conditions, behavioral challenges, co-occurring diagnoses). This is where my whole-child approach comes in.
Autism will be our primary focus, but we will also talk about other things that are relevant to the goals in consultation.

I’m a Licensed Psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). That means I have a deep understanding of diagnoses, psychological processes, intervention, and skill development. Please know I support families who do not agree with ABA therapy. I am not a practicing BCBA. I acknowledge criticisms of ABA therapy and will never try to convince you to pursue it if you do not agree with it.
Since 2014, I’ve performed over 1,000 “neurodevelopmental evaluations” with children. Autism and co-occurring conditions have been my specialties for most of my career. Some other experiences include running a private practice, serving on the board for the Autism Society of Colorado, an executive leadership position, and being a leader and founding team member of a multidisciplinary clinic.
My PhD is in School Psychology, which means I am very familiar with school systems and the challenges families face. I enjoy helping families navigate special education rights and IEPs. I’ve also supported children in a unique school where all children used AAC devices.

Families and professionals typically see me for about 3 sessions. That includes the intake session and two consultation sessions.
Support doens’t have to end there. My door is always open if you want additional sessions in the future! Just reach out and we’ll reconnect.
-
I am a “private pay” provider. This means I do not bill insurance as an in-network provider. I do not provide superbills, nor am I an out-of-network provider. This is because our sessions are not billable- we are not engaging in ongoing or brief therapy or clinical treatment that is billable.
-
All sessions are held over video (or by phone if that is not possible). I use Google Meet for video calls. An invitation with a link will be sent to your email and added to your personal calendar.
The video call will open in your browser if you are using Google Chrome. Google Meet will require you to download the app if you use your cellphone for the video call.
If either of us runs into tech or internet issues during a call, then we’ll complete the session over the phone. The session fee is the same for phone and video calls.
Discussions over email are limited, as I find live conversations to be the most useful.
-
I have a strict 48 hour cancellation policy to protect my time. This means sessions must be cancelled at least 48 hours before they’re scheduled to start. A cancellation less than 48 hours before a session start time will result in you being charged the full fee using the card on file. The card on file is also charged if you do not show for your appointment.
While I know this can be frustrating (and that life happens), a cancellation policy encourages attendance and gives me enough time to offer the cancelled session to someone else in need.
-
Sessions are typically a flat rate of $200 per hour. That includes 50 minutes of one-on-one work together and then 10 minutes for documentation on my end after that.
If you prefer longer sessions, we can discuss the rate. That will depend on how long you want sessions to be.
The card on file will be charged at the beginning of each session. It is also charged in the event you do not cancel within 48 hours of your session or do not show for it.
Organizational Training: The fee is to be determined after discussion of training goals, length of training, and the number of participants. The fee will include preparation time and time delivering the training. If travel is required, then that will also be considered in the fee. Typically, my fee is $200 per hour.

Payment is due at the time of service, when you did not show for a session, and if you cancelled less than 48 hours before your appointment.
Debit and credit cards are accepted for payment. The charge will be processed through my online payment system, where a card is securely stored on file to make payments easier. I do not have access to your full card information once it has been stored.
Unfortunately, I cannot accept cash or checks.
